The New York Times reported today that when Trump was offered the option to murder Gen. Qassem Soleimani, it was framed as an insane measure that obviously nobody in their right mind would choose. As the Times understated the case:
“In the chaotic days leading to the death of Maj. Gen. Qassim Suleimani, Iran’s most powerful commander, top American military officials put the option of killing him — which they viewed as the most extreme response to recent Iranian-led violence in Iraq — on the menu they presented to President Trump.
“They didn’t think he would take it. In the wars waged since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, Pentagon officials have often offered improbable options to presidents to make other possibilities appear more palatable.”
Everybody in the know understands how this works. Let’s say the Russians kill a US agent in Ukraine. The President’s advisors give the President an IQ test that runs something like this:
“Mr. President, you basically have three options. A: You push the red button on your desk and kill 200 million Russians, which will result in the deaths of at least 150 million Americans. B: You order the killing of a Russian agent in Ukraine with the same rank as the guy we lost. C: You meet with Putin in Moscow and have him drop his pants so you can kiss his ass on live television. So, Mr. President, which will it be? Option A, B, or C?”
There are basically two correct answers here. The first is: “Option B.” The second is: “Is there an option D?”
No president with two synapses rubbing together would ever choose Option A or Option C.
Until Trump.
Killing Soleimani was effectively like pushing the red button and unleashing a process that will inexorably lead to the deaths of hundreds of millions, if not billions, of people.
That Trump was stupid enough, and criminally insane enough, to do it, should surprise nobody.
That the people who give Presidential IQ tests went along with it, rather than shooting their criminally insane leader in the head or invoking the 25th Amendment, suggests that they are almost as stupid and evil as their psychopathic, mentally retarded leader.
